Day 52; June 20: Linda had some flight issues so she didn’t get in until close to midnight. We called a taxi and he was watching out for her and got her to the marina very reasonably. We went to the grocery store for a few last-minute things. We called Hank the taxi guy to take us to the national totem park. Walked the entire park and walked back to downtown Sitka. We decided to eat at a place that had Yelloweye fish and chips. It was to die for, as good as Halibut IMO.

Day 53; June 21: We got a late start today, due to the slack current time at Sergius Narrows. We could have left later but I got anxious to go. We sat in front of the narrows and had lunch then we went through an hour early. We went the additional 30 miles to the anchorage after we got through the narrows. I was glad we got through early since there was a National Geographic Cruise boat and a coast guard cutter that lined up to through exactly at slack. Once at Appleton Cove there were a couple small boats with people camping, one other cruiser and 200 crab pots. Most of the pots were shallow around the edges so finding a spot wasn’t difficult.

Day 54; June 22: This morning there was a swarm of small flying bugs on the boat all over. Once I went out to pull the anchor I was attacked by a few thousand of these little bastards. I got several bites on my face neck and head, even under my hat. We had a nice cruise to Pavlof Harbor, Chatham Strait was flat and we saw three whales and a couple pods of Dall Porpoises. There was one boat here when we got here but now there are six boats in the anchorage.

 Day 46; June 14: Last night there were two boats that came up to the falls and fished for a short time and then took off. I assumed they caught fish with all the fish we’ve watched jumping. I also assumed there would be several boats coming in since it is Saturday. Surprise, surprise I was wrong again. We saw less boats today than yesterday. Wildlife was somewhere else the jumping sockeyes and jellyfish were the main attraction.

Day 47; June 15: We moved to Leesoffskaia Bay at a leisurely pace this morning. The ride was short about 6 miles, weaving our way through the rocks and low spots that cover the charts for the area. If you drove by what you can see it would be a very dangerous place. Fortunately, we have charts that have most of the rocks and low spots mapped out, knock on wood.

Day 48; June 16: This is a nice well protected bay that is close to town for a quite get away. We used the day to do some cleaning and picking up. This morning, we had another boat anchor up. Later in the day he came over in his dinghy to introduce himself and then later we had happy hour together. We all had a good time introducing ourselves and telling stories.

Day 49; June 17: After discussing our plan with Jay last night we decided to stay put today. The bay we were going to go to was next door and more wide open than where we are. The only down side to this bay is that we haven’t seen any bears. The reviews we read said, bear sightings highly likely during summer. I guess we were a few days too early. We had another enjoyable happy hour this evening with Jay.

DAY 50; June 18: We did the slow roll this morning getting ready to go back to Sitka. We started to pull the anchor about 10 AM for the 6-mile journey back to town. As we were exiting the inlet we could see fishing boats ahead. There were gillnets in front of us that we couldn’t see until we were close. The fishing boat standing watch raced to get in front of us to ensure we turned. The water chop was big enough that the string of white floats was damn near invisible until we were very close. We made the big detour to go around the net. Then another net and another boat to go around before we were in clear water headed for town. Shortly after getting in our slip we ran to the grocery store and got back before fog and rain moved in.
