Day 91, 7/29: Very foggy but we were able to get out of our slip and back into a spot at the fuel dock right as they opened at 8:00. Leaving the harbor and the first hour was heavily using radar to look for objects in front of us given the visibility was 100’ to ¼ mile. The day was long with nearly 60 miles to get to Lowe Inlet. Once we got there, we were the fourth boat to anchor. Lowe Inlet has a waterfall that a couple in a dinghy came from they stopped by said hi and pointed out a bear in the grass. The couple was watching a bear at the falls trying to fish. Ironically, they also had a Nordic Tug boat, they were from Portland and he had worked at Tektronix (Lab Scopes and TV). We took the dinghy to the waterfall and saw two bears and a bunch of jumping fish trying to get us wet. The first bear looked to be mom, she got bored and went into the woods. A short time later a cub came out and laid at the edge of the falls, swiping occasionally at a fish.

Day 92, 7/30: Lowe Inlet to Khutze Inlet was 50-mile run. About mid route as we exited Grenville Channel, we spotted whales. This area is an intersection where 5 waterways come together so there are several points. We have learned whales like to feed at points. We spent 90 minutes moving from point to point watching several groups of whales playing, slapping flippers, and jumping out of the water. They put on quite a show. As we got to Khutze Inlet we were the third boat in and another two boats joined us after.

Day 93, 7/31: Khutze Inlet to Windy Bay, a short trip but that was good after a couple long days. We had Hiekish Narrows to go through, I missed it and didn’t plan for it. As luck would have it, we hit the narrows at maximum current. Fortunately, the flow was against us and only 3.5kts, so for a short time we were only travelling at 5.5kts (about 10 minutes). No danger, just irritated that I had missed that the narrows was on our path. I did recognize my error miles before we got to the narrows so we could have made changes if needed. At the end of the narrows Carolyn spotted a bear on the edge eating grass. She wanted a picture of his face so she growled loudly at it and it did look up at us, picture taken.

Day 94, 8/1: Windy Bay to Rescue Bay, another short day for miles. The trip was through Fjordland where we saw all the waterfalls in May. There weren’t as many waterfalls and the ones that were still running weren’t raging as in May. We spotted a couple whales but they went down never to be seen again.

The first 16 pictures uploaded backwards.
