Day 41; June 9: Today we went from Takatz Bay to Baby Bear Bay. The water in Chatham Strait was calm just the way we like it. The Bay is a nice place that is said to be all mud and good holding. Although, shortly after arriving we both heard the chain dragging across a rock. It is really load and unnerving when we are in bed in the bow and the chain drags across a rock. So, we pulled the anchor and picked a new spot that seemed to be all sticky mud.

Day 42; June 10: Headed for Sitka today but need to wait for Sergius Narrows. Slack current is at 11:25 AM and we are less than a half hour away. We did go through about half an hour early with 1.5 kts of current against us, hardly enough to matter. We got in and tied up, helped a fisherman get a water pump on his boat, talked to one of our neighbors. Shortly after the lady next to us brought over a couple pieces of fish for us (Halibut and Yelloweye). We walked to downtown had a few drinks, dinner and headed back to the boat.

Day 43; June 11: Chore Day we did laundry first followed with grocery shopping and then a run to the marine store. Later we called a taxi to take us to dinner and we asked if he had a better spot in mind, he did. We went to the Beak a small restaurant with better sit down dinning than we have had in Alaska. Carolyn had Salmon Mac and Cheese and I had Halibut in a cream sauce. Both were very good, happy birthday to me.

Day 44; June 12: Took the propane bottle to get it filled and it only took 1.5 gallons. It was 2 years ago here that we filled the tank the last time, and a similar quantity as well. Then I got the boat washed and filled the water tank. We do have the water maker but have yet to use it. Doing the prep to explore a few places near Sitka starting tomorrow.

Day 45; June 13: We left our slip and headed to the fuel dock to fill up. We got to the fuel dock at 8:15 thinking they opened at 5:30 but no one was around. Turns out they open at 9:00 at this location and 5:30 at the south location. Then the kid tried to chastise me for tying up in the wrong spot. I was in the self-service spot where if you have a code, you can fill on your own. Bad me. We then proceeded slowly to Redoubt Bay which was 13 miles. The path is through a lot of islands south of Sitka but still within Sitka Sound. We had about 30 minutes of ocean swells, since the Sound is open to the unprotected northern Pacific. We anchored in a nice spot that we have a view of a short falls from Redoubt Lake. There is a fence of sorts that goes across the falls on the lakeside to keep boats and kayaks from going over the falls. There was a crew working there that looked like they were putting sand bags on the triangle structures.

Look for the guy on the right
