Day 61; June 29: We started a little later than normal given we had only 10 miles to go. Once we got out into Lynn Canal it was bumpy and we were taking the waves to the beam. Our route had us going straight across but we changed course to smooth the ride. We made the decision to keep going and to go into Auke Bay which is at the north end of Juneau. We found a spot in the marina and then we went up to have a drink and a late lunch but the bar had no food. This marina is probably the busiest marina we have seen in Alaska. Charter fishing, whale viewing and personal fisherman were going in and out like crazy.

Day 62; June 30: Although, we were at the north end of Juneau we had to go about 25 miles out around Douglas Island to downtown Juneau. We were put in Aurora Basin Harbor which is bit and farther from town than we were before. As we traveled up Gastineau Channel we had a large cruise ship in front of us and two behind us.

Day 63; July 1: Today was all about being tourists. We went downtown and tried to walk past each of the two hundred jewelry stores twice if not three times. Four ships were in town so the streets and shops were packed. We had dinner at the Hanger, which was good and got an Uber back to the marina.

Day 64; July 2: We got Linda on her way to the airport this morning. Sad goodbyes all around. Carolyn ordered prescriptions from Freddys but they weren’t ready until after 4:00 PM. Once they were ready, we got a bus to take us the 8 miles. Along with the prescriptions, we did all our provisioning and decided to use an Uber to get back to the marina with 12 bags of groceries.

Day 65; July 3: First thing to do was laundry, there were 6 loads of wash. Fun was had by all. The rest of the day was reasonably slow. The fireworks were scheduled for 11:59 PM tonight. I needed a nap or two to stay up that late. The fireworks lasted until 12:35 AM so it was a long show. The temperature and lack of wind made the smoke just hang in the air. After a while the smoke was so thick we could only see the outer edges of each firework burst.

Day 66; July 4: We got up and went to the parade. The start of the parade was very close to the harbors so we literally were at the beginning of the parade. Kids had grocery sacks of candy by the end of the parade near us. It is likely most of the candy was gone well before the parade was done based on the amount they were throwing out at the beginning. It was a nice small town parade that lasted about an hour.

Day 67; July 5: We got up this morning ready to go, first stop was fuel. It was a good thing we got there close to opening because by the time we were done several boats were lined up including a mega-yacht. We decided to go all the way to Tracy Arm Cove today. The hope is if we get going early tomorrow we might be able to see something at Sawyer North and South before the predicted 0.9” of rain starts and the clouds obscure everything.
