Day 87; July 25: We went to Ketchikan today with smooth water all the way. I was surprised at the lack of people fishing. In 23 there were boats all over fishing and radio chatter about getting limits. Today virtually nothing. We got our slip and later went out for a few drinks and Pizza.
Day 88; July 26: We took the bus downtown so Carolyn could
look at some of the shops. She didn’t find what she was looking for but we did
find some reindeer sausage. We looked at a crab place downtown for lunch but it
was a little overpriced, they had two King Crab legs for $179. We had Carolyn’s
favorite Taco Time for lunch once we got back near the boat.
Day 89; July 27: Chore Day, we did the laundry and restocked
at Safeway. Later we went for a drink and had Nachos for dinner.
Day 90; July 28: Happy Birthday my love! Carolyn needed some
meds so we went to Safeway and then we went to McDonalds for Breakfast. Carolyn
stopped in the fabric store and bought some work for my sister. Later we went
to dinner and both had shrimp dinners, alfredo for the birthday girl and a spicy dish for me.
Day 91; July 29: We left our slip about 7:30 so we could be
at the fuel station when they opened at 8 AM. Once full we headed to an
anchorage near what we thought was fishing areas. Once we turned the corner
into Clover Passage, we found many fishing boats trolling for Salmon. On the
shore line there are many fishing lodges with several boats each. As for
anchoring we passed on 4 spots and went to Marguerite Bay a place we were in
23. We did see a black bear cub when checking one of the spots.
Day 92; July 30: There is a dock in the bay that leads to a
bear observatory. Before we left two planes landed in the bay and dropped off eight
people to hike back to the observatory. We went to Yes Bay and anchored around
the corner from a fishing lodge. We anchored near some crab pots, one of which
disappeared a few hours after arriving at low tide. I assumed that the rope was
too short and the floats went under as the water raised.
