Day 34; June 2: Day 2 at Cannery Cove we got up expecting the same show from the bears but it was a smaller show. There was a pair that spent several hours exposed in the grass and a loaner that was out for a little bit. There were five deer in the same area relatively. The young bear of the pair went to chase one of the deer but it was no contest, the blue ribbon went to the deer. We had two other boats anchored with us one was Venture a Fleming yacht owned by Tony Fleming. He has made some of the better videos of cruising Alaska on YouTube.
Day 35; June 3: We left Cannery Cove about 7 AM headed for Red
Bluff Bay. Red Bluff was voted our favorite bay of 2023. We crossed Fredrick
Sound and got to where we saw the pictograph on the rock face in 2023, then we
crossed Chatham Strait. The forecast was for 2’ seas but it was closer to 0.5’
which was just right. The bay hasn’t lost its beauty. About 5:30 PM a bear
showed himself on the shore. We were joined for the evening by two small passenger
boats. The smaller one probably had 3 couples and the larger one maybe 10
couples. The smaller one, launched a few kayaks and a dinghy for to explore the
bay.
Day 36; June 4: Day 2 at Red Bluff, a less scenic day with
the clouds and fog. The larger cruise boat launched about 12 kayaks followed by
the a few from the smaller boat. They paddled around for about an hour and the boats
loaded up and took off. I got a shrimp pot ready and took it close to the
entrance of the bay about 3 miles and dropped it in 300’ of water with the
dinghy. The afternoon was rainy, foggy and cold. One of the boats that anchored
with us in Cannery Cove came in and anchored next to us. Another cruise boat
came in and anchored in front of the waterfall. Later another one came in
looked at the waterfall and then left.
Great picture sure lots of bears bet they would loves some honey so Tim keep your honey close to you. Ha
