Day 38; June 6: We got up and got ready to go. First stop is
the shrimp pot, success 17 spotted prawns. Now we have enough for a dinner now.
I didn’t mention before I bought a used pot puller probably 10-12 years ago and
this is the first time using it. The puller came with us in 2023 but we didn’t
do any shrimping. The puller made easy work for pulling 450’ of line. The trip
to Takatz Bay was easy on flat water and a little wildlife. We had a few Dall’s
porpoises swim along with us for a minute or two and then we had a whale show it
self once. We got into the anchorage and picked a nice spot in front of a waterfall.
A boat arrived that we had anchored with in Cannery Cove and Red Bluff Bay.
Later they stopped by while exploring on their dinghy and we had a nice chat;
we are looking forward to seeing them again in other anchorage or town. Turns
out we also chatted with Karen at the laundromat in Petersburg.
Day 39; June 7: Day 2 at Takatz, the forecast for Saturday
and Sunday is high winds and 3-5’ seas, oh yeah and rain too. It did rain all
day with the brightest part of the day starting at about 6:30 PM. We had two
boats join us one was 100’ the other 65’. We did get some cleaning and other
chores completed but otherwise a slow day.
Day 40; June 8: Day 3 at Takatz, surprisingly it is raining, although, it is brighter today so far. Forecasts still look bad for Chatham Strait but we can’t tell what is really happening. There has been little wind or swell in the anchorage; to think we are a mile up an inlet that at the mouth has seas up to 5’ is hard to imagine. The other three boats have gone; they must not have thought it is too bad. I have been able to get actual conditions from a couple reporting stations but it is only temperature and wind no sea state. We aren’t in a hurry so we will spend another night here.
