Day 21, 5/18: Four larger fishing boats came in overnight making considerable noise including Duke a dog that kept exploring and the owner that yelled for him to come back every couple minutes. Up at 4:30 to make a last check on weather conditions. Weather looked good for crossing Dixon entrance so we started out at 6:00. To get out of Prince Rupert headed north you go through Venn Passage which is a narrow shallow passage. Our timing could have been better, given we went through at low tide. There was a tidal exchange of 19.8’ that day. I expected the first part of the trip to be smooth and after we passed Dundas Island where it is unprotected from the ocean to get bumpy. It was exactly the opposite; it was very bumpy at first and then smoothed out with gentle swells all the way into Foggy Bay. Crossing the border, the time is now back 1 hour from PDT and we used the CBP Roam app to clear customs. We anchored in a spot that I thought was the inner bay but it was outer bay. As a result, we moved around with the swells at times that appeared to be based on the tides.

Day 22, 5/19: We continued up Revillagigedo Channel to Ketchikan. There were 3 cruise ships in town as we passed by. The ship schedule said a couple were leaving about 2PM, as we approached, we were passed by a dozen fishing boats all racing back to get their customers back to the ships on time. We got a slip for 3 nights to do some looking around and get chores done. We are a little over a mile from downtown down Tongass Ave. the main drag though town. There are a hell of a lot of cars racing down Tongass for a place you can’t drive to. Interestingly, we saw the Disney Wonder on Tuesday starting their cruise. According to the schedule they will be (or are) in Ketchikan today (Saturday) the last stop on their cruise.
