Day 8: Passed gate 1 today by crossing the Strait of
Georgia. The inside passage is known for 3 gates the first is the Strait of
Georgia, the second is rounding Cape Caution, and third is Dixon entrance. The
crossing was smooth with a gentle wake between 0-1.5 feet. Once arriving we
anchored up with several other boats. Once we get more comfortable anchoring
around others our indecision should get better. We lowered the dinghy and went
to the public dock that is close to an IGA. We have fresh fruit and veggies
now. Tomorrow off to Squirrel Cove about 49nm reasonably well protected all the
way.
Day 9: The day started out rough leaving Pender Harbour but
the water calmed down about 30 minutes in. Rainy, gray, and gloomy are the best
words to describe the day. The rain stopped for a bit while we were in traveling but started again once we anchored and didn’t stop. There was a small fish farm
in the cove, don’t know what species. It wasn’t a very photogenic day.
Day 10: We had 3 rapids to go through today. A little bit of
calculating and a lot a double checking to ensure we were going to get to them
at the right time. We were a little early so we slowed down and went through
with no problems. We are Anchored in Shoal Bay tonight and have 2 more rapids
tomorrow. A few days ago the fresh water pump was turning on by itself every
10-20 seconds. So we have been shutting off the power to the pump when not using
water, it worked but a pain. I am assuming it is a bad pressure switch. Fortunately,
we had a near identical spare that I put in today.
